TNR - Cat Trappers

A cat trapper uses humane cage traps to safely capture cats, typically for the purpose of a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program. These professionals set up and monitor traps, often baited with smelly food, to humanely capture feral or community cats for spaying and neutering, and sometimes to help stray cats find homes. The goal is to control populations, reduce animal suffering, and lessen the impact on communities. 

Key responsibilities

• Trapping: Setting up humane cage traps, often covered with a blanket, using bait like tuna oil to lure cats inside.
• Monitoring: Regularly checking the traps to ensure no animals are held for extended periods, which can cause stress.
• Handling: Releasing any non-target animals that are accidentally trapped.
• TNR participation: Transporting trapped cats to be spayed or neutered, and then returning them to their outdoor colony after they have recovered.
• Community support: Educating the public on cat trapping and management, and supporting colony caregivers.
